Himalaya - Flight

Jammu & Kashmir Airports

There are three operational airports within Jammu & Kashmir which are open to public passenger traffic. The Sheikh ul Alam Airport, also known as the Srinagar Airport is the main International Airport at Srinagar. Air India operates scheduled flights from here to Dubai and chartered flights to Sharjah during the Haj Pilgrimage season. It is well connected through regular domestic flights to Delhi, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Mumbai and Bangalore, apart from regular and twice weekly services to Jammu and Leh within the state. Jammu Airport which is also known as the Satwari Airport, is a domestic airport serving the city of Jammu, and is well connected with Srinagar and other Indian destinations. The Leh Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport has daily flights to Delhi, and biweekly scheduled services to Srinagar and Jammu. Air India, GoAir, Indian Airlines, IndiGo, Jet Airways, JetLite, Kingfisher Airlines and Spice Jet are the regular airlines operating regular scheduled flights to the various locations in the state of Jammu & Kashmir.

Himachal Pradesh Airports

Bhunter Airport, which is commonly known as the Kullu Manali Airport or Kullu Airport, is located in Bhunter in the north Indian State of Himachal Pradesh. Set in a deep valley this public airport is operated by the Airports Authority of India which is a very challenging airport for the pilot. Air India Regional, Jagson Airlines and Kingfisher Airlines are operating regular scheduled flights to and from Delhi, Pathankot, Chandigarh, Dharamsala and Shimla to Bhunter Airport. The other public airports in Himachal Pradesh include the Shimla Airport located in Jabarhatti, and the Gaggal Airport or the Dharamsala-Kangra Airport located in Gaggal near Kangra. Both these airports are operated by the Airports Authority of India and are connected through regular scheduled flights within this region.

Arunachal Pradesh Airports

Airports Authority of India has a number of public airports built in the Indian State of Arunachal Pradesh. The Tezu Airport, Pasighat Airport, Along Airport, Zero Airport and Daporijo Airport, although small still have no regular scheduled flight services operated by any airline. The airports within the Indian State of Assam are however, the closest from where visitors can either opt for the rail or road route to reach Arunachal Pradesh.

Uttarakhand Airports

The Jolly Grant Airport which is also known as the Dehradun Airport is located near the city of Dehradun in the Uttarakhand State of India. Nestled within the foothills of the Himalayas it is operated by the Airports Authority of India and connected with Delhi through regular flights. Indian Airlines, Jet Airlines, Jagson Airlines and Kingfisher Airlines operate regular services within this region. Pantnagar Airport is the other airport in Uttarakhand State and is well connected with flights to Delhi. Pantnagar is closer to a number of tourist hotspots including the Jim Corbett National Park.

Sikkim Airports

The rough terrain of Sikkim has kept this region devoid of any airports. Bagdogra Airport is the nearest at a distance of 124 kilometers and is located in the Siliguri District of the Indian State of West Bengal. However, Gangtok, the capital city of Sikkim State is connected through regular helicopter services from Bagdogra Airport. A couple of heliports are also coming up at Namchi and Chemchey in Sikkim to boost the tourism prospects of this hilly state.
