Guwahati, The Beautiful North East Indian Destination |

Guwahati is the commercial capital city of the northeastern state of Assam and is one of the biggest cities of Assam in India. Its name is derived from two Assamese words, "Guwa," meaning areca nut and "Haat," meaning market. Set among the beautiful hills of the eastern edges of the Himalayan mountain range, it is positioned in the north eastern state of Assam.
In the recent times Guwahati has developed into one of the finest tourist destinations in India. The most popular tourist attractions in Guwahati are its quaint Hindu temples which include Umananda Temple, Navagraha or temple of nine planets, Vashistha Ashram. The most important temple which attracts pilgrims from all over India is the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati which is dedicated to the goddess Kamakshya or Sati, the consort of Lord Shiva.

Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra: Built in 1990's the Kalakshetra is the newest addition to the many attractions of Guwahati. It’s a great site for a tourist to visit, as one will witness the artistic excellence of Assam and rest of the north-eastern region.
