The magnificent Himalayas have a long & interesting association not only with the topography of India but also with the mythology & history of the country. The youngest & yet the most gigantic mountain ranges stretched across 2,900 km, the Himalayas are synonymous to beauty, serenity, purity, adventure & pleasure.
One of the most revered & a sacred place in the Himalayas is Mount Kailash. The history of this mountain dates back to 30 million years ago when the Himalayas is believed to have been in its initial stage of formation. Standing at an altitude of 6,675m in the western region of Tibet, the majestic Mount Kailash is complimented by the giant & pious lake of shifting colors – Lake Mansarovar. According to Hindu mythology, the lake is believed to have been created & named by Lord Brahma, the creator. This 90m deep lake freezes during the winters & melts during spring. A legend behind these two sacred destinations suggests that a bath in Mansarovar Lake & a holy trip to Mount Kailash paves a way for attaining salvation or Moksha.
