Nepal contains nine of the world's fourteen highest mountain peaks, which makes it a true Himalayan kingdom. Nepal lies in between the southern slope of Himalayas. The great Himalayas covers three fourth of the land in Nepal. It is home to some of the highest, remotest, rugged and most difficult terrain in the world.
To the north of Nepal runs the Great Himalayan Range, this is one of the highest mountain ranges in the Himalayan system. With an average altitude of about 4,570 m (about 15,000 ft) this region remains perpetually snow-covered. Mount Everest, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, and Annapurna are some of the loftiest mountain peaks in the world which rise on this range.
Nepal also offers tourists and visitors with some of the best Himalayan adventure sports. It offers some amazing adventure sports activities like Mountaineering, Trekking River Rafting, Rock Climbing, Jungle Safari, Motorbike Safari, Weekend Camping, Angling & Fishing, Skiing and Heli skiing.
Hinduism and Buddhism constitute two major religions of Nepal. A remarkable feature of Nepal is the religious homogeneity what exists, particularly between the Hindu and Buddhist communities. Apart from the Hindus and Buddhists, Muslim is the third largest religious group here.
Nepal Himalayan Mountain Systems:
- Nepal Himalaya Region: Altitude 4877-m - 8848 m that includes 8 of the highest 14 summits in the world, which exceed altitude of 8,000m including Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and others.
- Nepal Mountain Region: Covers about 64% of total land area. It is formed by the Mahabharat range that soars up to 4,877m and the lower Churia range.
Nepal Terai Region: The low-land Terai occupies about 17% of the total land area of the country.
