Pelling famous for its glorious history, natural beauty and culture is a placid travel destination in Sikkim. Located at an altitude of 6,800 ft above sea level it provides a panoramic view of the snow-capped mountains of Khangchendzonga. Due to the strategic location, Pelling has become one of the most visited tourist places of Sikkim. Pelling serves as a perfect gateway to numerous attractions like waterfalls, soft trek routes, villages and lush forested hills. Best time to visit here is in the months from mid- February through May and from mid - September through December.
Places of Interest in Pelling Sikkim
Pemayangtse Monastery – Belonging to the Nyingma order, Pemayangtse Monastery is located at about 140 km from Gangtok. It is one of the premiere monasteries in Sikkim and all other Nyingma monasteries in Sikkim are subordinate to it. From the monastery you get one of the best views of Mt. Khangchendzonga.
Sangacholing Monastery - This monastery is strategically placed on a ridge above Pelling and the famous Pemayangtse Monastery. In order to reach the monastery one has to walk on steep hilly slope which lead through rich forests area.
Khecheopalri Lake- Famously known as the wishing lake, the unusually tranquil Khecheopalri Lake is surrounded by blooming forest and is considered as one of the sacred lakes of Sikkim both by the Buddhist and the Hindus. In the vicinity of the lake one can find the Lepcha Houses and their communities.
