The trek from Yuksom to Goecha La is one of outstanding treks in the Sikkim region of the Indian Himalaya. The trek starts in the lowland rainforests near Yuksom before ending at Goecha La near the base of Kangchenjunga (28,169ft/8,586 m) the World’s Third Tallest Peak. The route passes through several sections of beautiful Rhododendron forests best viewed in early May and open alpine meadows with fantastic panoramas of the surrounding mountains. The 5th day of the trip brings us to Dzongri Top where we can view both Kangchenjunga and Mount Pandim. The trail continues to Samiti Lake a beautiful alpine lake before reaching Goecha La Pass 16,000ft/4876m. We highly recommend going in May with the bright red Rhododendrons line the trail but other good seasons include October to November and March and April. The trek is fairly accessible by Himalayan standards. Regular flights are available to Siliguri from either Delhi or Kolkata where we will meet you for the five hour drive to the trailhead at Yuksom.
